its been a rough couple of weeks for my family.
first my daughter gets pneumonia. her lung collapsed. she was at the childrens’ hospital for 4 days.
the my wife got pneumonia and was in bad shape. she spent a night in the hospital.
then my mom goes in the hospital for 4 days with a case of pneumonia.
whatever it was put us down and did it hard.
luckily i escaped without pneumonia, but i did get a little cough. it’s still there but manageable at this point. so i went for a run last night.
it felt great. i didn’t push it and i ran a very short distance, but it felt great to be back. can’t wait to pick up the speed and distance again. im almost 20lb lighter this time around, so im expecting my knees will do much better.

tomorrow is going to be humbling and FUN.
for the first time in a while i’ll be running. for the first time in a while i’ll be on my MTB in the woods.
the muddy buddy is a team race of approx 6-7miles with 5 legs. each team member alternates riding the MTB and running. i’ll be taking the first leg on the bike, which means i’ll bike 3 legs and run 2. my buddy alan is in much better shape than me, so we’ll see how it all plays out.
ever since i’ve been visiting Progressive Medical Centers and getting my body chemistry aligned i have felt great. i have more energy that i have in years. i’m 13lb lighter. i’m ready to take the next steps of change, and that means some heavy duty exercise.
this race will be a fun and productive way to get started on an exercise routine again.
here goes nothing!

yep. i’m back.
finally have made some serious progress with my overall health, which has kept me from continuing my training.
now it’s on the mend and i have no excuses. no, i don’t have a lot of time, but i’ll use what time i do have.
i’m doing this on saturday with virtually no training, so it’ll either inspire me or kill me. hah!

my new goal is to get into US Army PFT passing shape. not that i’m going to join the army, but it’ll mean i’m in pretty good shape. that means that i must do the following:
- 39 push ups in 2min
- 45 sit ups in 2min
- 2 mile run in 17 minutes flat
my best friend SGT Dave will help me train and administer the test.
i also have a weight loss goal. i want to lose 80lb. not setting a timeline for that quite yet.
i’ll be posting at least once a week, even if it’s to admit i’ve been sitting around doing nothing.

if anyone out there is still reading then here’s a big hello.
lots has been going on lately. lots besides running. i’m kicking it into high gear to make preparations for the half marathon. yes i’ll still do it. yes it will be tough. no i don’t have a choice.
now that i’m over my recent sinus infection i’m ready to go. tonight i banged out about 1.5mi in short order. looks like i still have it. it’ll take a few days to really get going again, but i should be back in no time. i’ve been eating a little better, and my wife has committed to help me out starting this week to do an even better job. i don’t have a lot of time to make a lot of progress.
i have a few routes i run on, but from now on out i’m sticking to the .75mi loop around my neighborhood. i’m also going to try to hit the track at the elementary school down the road. i’ll see if it’s open at night. it’s a half mile run to get there, then .25mi laps thereafter.
my plan is to get up to 8mi at once by the end of this month. i figure i’ll be back at the 4-5mi distance in a week or so if i push it. that leaves me another week or so to add another 3 miles. then i have until nov 27 to keep adding.
a wise runner friend told me to avoid running the full race length beforehand. i need to give myself something to accomplish. it’ll mean more that way. so i’ve decided i won’t run past 11mi in my training. i figure if i can run 11 i can run 13.1, but it still makes me a bit nervous. i guess that’s what adrenaline is for right?
big props to los and heather who ran their first marathon today. big inspiration to me. i can do it people!
wish me luck, and chide my ass if i don’t post up here EVERY DAY saying what i did! i don’t have much time left!!! you listening, derek??

knocked out 4mi tonight. it was fairly slow, but it was 4mi nonetheless.
i’ve been slacking lately, but no more. school is back in session, so i’ll hit the gym on mondays, get in some kickboxing on wednesday and friday, and i’ll run or bike the other days of the week.
y’all keep me accountable! i’m running out of time for the half!!

here it is. i’m a slacker, but back on the wagon(y).
i’m a moron, and the pic i took didn’t have numbers on the scale for some reason, but rest assuret it said 297.2 just before i snapped the photo.

that means i’ve gained a little since last time, but that’s not so bad.
i’ve been riding my bike lately and i’ll be back to beating feet this week. i killed about 30mi last week on the bike and it hit me that i really need a real road bike if i’m going to keep that up.. we’ll see about that.
also coming this weekend are more graphs – i’ve been slack on tracking my food intake as well. no more. time to step it up, especially if i’m going to do this half marathon thing in november. i’m running out of time (no pun intended!!)

seems like it’s been a while..
i just returned from a mission trip in Mexico this past friday, hence my lack of updates. i was super busy on the trip but did manage to get a 1.5mi run in this past week. it was in lindale, tx, aka the 5th circle of hell. it was that freaking hot. the humidity was intense, and the mosquitos tried to carry me off. twice.
tonight i start at it again hardcore, so look for my update tonight or tomorrow. my nike+ is freaking out so i don’t know if i can get the run data up or not. silly technology.
back to the grind!

no graphs this week. no running this week after that last 5 miler on sunday..
i decided to take it easy on my knees and regroup a bit. rather than doing longer runs i’m going to start tomorrow on consistency – 2 or 3 mile runs as often as i can. we’ll see how it goes.
long story short, here it is. awesome. by my amateur math that’s 6.6lb last week. whoa. maybe i should quit running??? not!
since the start of this thing i’m down about 13lb.
